I do NOT hold to the belief that the British tabloid media have been bullying the Sussex duo – despite the furious protestations of Prince Harry, a handful of insignificant US talking heads and the impending martyrdom of some Argentinian polo player.
Now, the unsurprising fact that they are all appear to be mired in the identical publicity relations and merchandising labyrinth enjoyed by our poor embattled Duchess Meg merely adds to this delightful drama.
“When the speech condemns a free press, you are hearing the words of a tyrant.”
The raison d’etre of a free press is to hold our public figures to account and if this includes implied constructive criticism, humiliating disclosures or challenging questions – THEN. SO. BE. IT.
The Sussex tabloid tales of wedding weed party favors, disgruntled friends, a feature on Porn Hub, tiara tantrums, an embarrassing father, privacy demands and spending millions on ridiculous couture, vegan paint and copper bath tubs while simultaneously bullying staff and sharing vacuous nonsense on Instagram is NOT abuse.
Embarrassing? Certainly! Trivial? Possibly. Abusive? – Nope!
However, the Daily Mail message boards from the keyboards of our unhappy Sussex employers are something else entirely…
“No institution – city, Monarchy, whatever – should expect to be free from the scrutiny of those who give it their loyalty and support, not to mention those who don’t.”
Queen Elizabeth II
And in this spirit of scrutiny – let’s get a little more mischievous and take a look at some of the stories the British tabloid media have chosen NOT to share with their readers.
Let’s dive straight in with the controversy which continues to surround the secret birth of their son Archie Harrison including a dollop of nifty media manipulation and untruths with those wild tales of the changing ‘bump’, an ambiguous ‘due date’ and the rumors of a surrogate.
And although no one can accuse Meg of being economical with the taxpayer’s loot – she has been known to be occasionally more frugal with the truth.
“I’m from the States you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family.
I now understand very clearly there’s a global interest there. I didn’t know much about him”
Hmm! However, the forgetful Meg clearly knew something about the older brother and HIS spouse…
And on the subject of the older brother – what about the distraction of those unsubstantiated infidelity rumors which emanated from the mischievous pen of the blogger Nicole Cliffe and who’s journalistic tendrils appear to be tightly bound through the Canadian SoHo House glitterati?
And if that’s not enough to stoke the fire – the entertainment lawyer Enty revealed in an April ‘Blind’ that Meg -the original SoHo gal had been the one responsible for fanning the flames!
As Enty has also been kind enough to share with us the intriguing notion of our Meg’s ruthless campaign to line her pockets and that of her complicit spouse with the proceeds of those South African secret expensive lunches along with a little harmless advertising of cute infant dungarees for the H&M clothing company – why can I hear only the sound of silence?
If I can join the dots over at the highly monetized ‘Meghan’s Mirror’ and the “long standing relationships” of editors Christine Ross and Amanda Dishaw with Meg’s BFF and personal stylist Jessica Mulroney – why can’t a reporter with an expense account, press accreditation card and a few hours to spare?
And I wonder what’s happened to the Disney ‘donation’ of some $1.5 million earmarked for the Lion Recovery Fund and deposited in the secret yet-to-be-launched-foundation as payment in kind for the Sussex duo to meet with the great unwashed during the Lion King film premiere in July?
According to our intrepid royal reporter Scobie – this was to be THE event to break the internet as the Sussex duo enjoyed a cuddle with the Carter couple…
Sadly for Scobie, the internet did NOT break down as evidenced by the number of disgruntled voices who went on-line to share their criticism about the absence of the Captain General of the Royal Marines as a guest of honor at the Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust Memorial Day on that same day.
I can only surmise that watching a cartoon was more important than honoring the anniversary of eleven Royal Marine Musicians murdered by the IRA terror cell over thirty years ago.
